MCP and Interactive Books: Intended Direction
The intended direction is an interactive reading layer that can answer constrained questions from authorized content while preserving provenance, entitlement, and reader control. It is not a live public MCP service today.
What an interactive book could do
A reader could inspect a cited section, compare versions, request a scoped explanation, or bring authorized book context into a local tool. Every response should identify the source version and respect the work’s access boundary.
What must exist first
Protected-content access needs entitlement checks, a clear corpus boundary, source citations, logging appropriate to the privacy model, and a way to correct or withdraw content. A local bridge should not silently transmit unrelated files or reader data.
What is available now
Today’s public layer is narrower: Context Packs, metadata-only Release Manifests, public JSON, and local validation. The public demo does not include a live MCP server, authenticated book tools, or executable code.
