Source and Provenance Records
Provenance is the record of what a system was allowed to use, which version it used, and where a person can inspect the boundary. It supports review; it does not by itself verify truth.
Minimum useful fields
Record the work identity, source-record version, source or canonical URL where appropriate, content hash when available, scope note, access classification, and explicit exclusions. Keep private evidence and protected source material in systems with the correct access controls.
Source quality and factual claims
A provenance record makes a claim inspectable; it does not establish that the claim is correct. Research quality, citation review, specialist review, and editorial judgment remain separate responsibilities.
Local validation
The Source Ledger Validator is a browser-only helper for checking the shape of a context record. It does not upload text, certify compliance, fact-check a manuscript, or replace editorial review.
